Form Follows Function?
Permaculture Principles and Urban Planning – can the two be connected? A resiliency based vision for designing and retrofitting urban settlements.
Urban planning and Permaculture – an exploration of current practice and necessarily new urban forms that are based around resiliency planning in the face of Climate Change threats. Is what we need to do adequate, or do we need to re-think the urban design of Australian suburbs?
Exploring the nexus of urban planning and Permaculture this presentation explores current and new urban forms that are emerging based around resiliency planning in the face of Climate Change threats. Is what we need to do adequate or do we need to re-think the urban design strategy of Australian suburbs?
What role does adaptation and mitigation play in our understanding of urban resiliency, how can new technologies benefit, is a technological fix adequate in the face of threats posed and how could Permaculture principles inform the design and development of urban places.

SUHO (Sustainability House)
Established in 2003, SUHO is a nationally recognised provider of ecologically sustainable design (ESD) services and energy efficiency assessments and for commercial and residential buildings.
Our focus is on helping our clients create resourcefully clever buildings. We provide thermal modelling, simulation and energy analysis across all climate zones in Australia, as well as offering sustainable design advice, and mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and lighting design.
We believe that all buildings should aim to be low in embodied energy, use energy efficiently, generate electricity, collect and recycle water, be passively thermally comfortable and provide safe indoor air quality. We’re dedicated to providing all of our clients with cost-effective, flexible and innovative sustainable design solutions.
